About the showroom

A Harrogate piano shop built on twenty years of craft.

James and Catherine Whitmore opened Keys & Co. in 2018 so that every piano sold would carry proper technical preparation, not just a price tag. James is a qualified piano technician with more than twenty years behind him; Catherine makes sure the showroom never feels rushed.

Each instrument on our floor at 14 Montpellier Parade is inspected, regulated, and voiced before it is offered for sale. That is the difference between a showroom and a shop.

Why Keys & Co.

A piano shop that feels like someone’s front room.

A technician at the helm

James trained as a piano technician in the late 1990s. He inspects, regulates, and voices every piano himself before it leaves the showroom.

Authorised for Yamaha and Kawai

One of few Yorkshire dealers carrying both authorised ranges, from the compact B1 and K-15 to premium uprights and grands.

No-pressure by design

Private viewing rooms, tea on the hob, and all the time you need to play. You leave with the right piano, not a sold piano.

Looked after long after delivery

Free 30-mile delivery, included post-settling tune, 5-year new-piano warranty, and James on the end of the phone for years after.

How it works

Piano buying Q&A

Common questions about buying a piano in Harrogate

Do I need an appointment to visit the showroom?

Walk-ins are welcome during opening hours (Tuesday to Saturday, 10am–5pm), but we recommend booking a private viewing if you want to play several instruments quietly without interruption. Sunday visits are by appointment only.

Do you deliver outside Harrogate?

Yes. Delivery is free within 30 miles of the Harrogate showroom, which covers York, Ripon, Knaresborough, Wetherby, Ilkley, Thirsk and the wider North Yorkshire area. We can deliver further afield for an additional fee; ask for a quote when you visit.

What warranty do you offer on new pianos?

Every new piano sold by Keys & Co. carries a 5-year warranty covering manufacturing defects and workmanship. Pre-owned pianos carry a 12-month warranty on the work we have carried out in our workshop.

Should I buy a Yamaha or a Kawai?

Both are excellent and we are authorised dealers for both. As a very broad rule, Yamaha uprights tend toward a brighter, more articulate tone while Kawai leans slightly warmer with a Millennium III composite action. The honest answer is that personal feel matters more than brand — which is exactly what the showroom visit is for.

How does piano part exchange work?

Send us photos of your current piano along with the serial number and a note on condition, and James will come back to you with a desk valuation. If you're happy, we'll arrange an in-person inspection and a firm trade-in offer, credited against your new instrument. We handle collection and delivery in one visit within 30 miles.
